When I am asked what I do for a living, and I tell people that I am a home stager, nine out of ten times the automatic response is, “What does a home stager do?”. With home staging being a growing industry, it is not surprising to me that most people are unfamiliar with the job I hold, yet alone the concept of home staging at all. This is one of my favorite questions to answer, and I always begin my explanation the same way. “I have the best job ever, let me tell you all about it!”

I am a home stager; I get to furnish and style vacant and occupied properties to help them sell. Notice that I say, “I get to”, well that is because I am so very grateful and fortunate to have my job and get to do what I get to do. We walk into some homes that have honestly seen better days, whether they are old, or just outdated, and we bring them back to life. We get to help somebody envision what their life might be like in this home, help them picture their children running around the family room playing, or family gatherings in the kitchen. We don’t just place furniture and decorations; we invoke feelings and create a possibility of a future within a space.

Some people have asked me why they should bother hiring a home stager when selling their home. They think that the décor they have put in their home is as good as what we can do. While I agree, the décor and furnishings in their home are perfect for them and their family, it might not be perfect for the next family or for the needs of the next homeowner. What we do is turn a space into something versatile enough, so that anybody who walks into the home can see the space as theirs.

I am so fortunate to have found my place within this family, and to get the privilege of learning and growing with some of the most talented people in the home staging industry.
